About Squiggler Academy
Nurturing Creativity, Confidence & Skill in Every Young Artist
At Squiggler Academy, we believe every child deserves the chance to explore their creativity in a professional, inspiring environment. Our mission is simple: to help children develop artistic skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of making art — all while having fun in a supportive, hands-on studio.
Through structured 2-hour studio sessions, guided by practising artists, students create multiple artworks each term. Every project is designed to build technical skills, spark imagination, and prepare children for a final exhibition that celebrates their achievements.
Our Philosophy
We don’t just run art classes — we cultivate a complete creative experience.
- Small class sizes ensure individual guidance and attention
- Immersive 2-hour sessions give children time to develop ideas fully
- Students work in real studio environments, including a professional gallery in Redfern and our school studio at Ngarala Public School in Epping
- Every term culminates in a public exhibition, where students see their work framed and displayed for family and community
We combine structure, skill-building, and creative freedom so children feel confident exploring, experimenting, and expressing themselves.
Meet Our Team
Daryl Lo — Director & Practising Artist
Daryl is a practising artist with exhibitions across Australia, Europe, and America. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts and is in his third year at the National Art School. Daryl founded Revolve Gallery — a gallery built by artists for emerging artists — and brings this professional insight into every class. He balances technical discipline with encouragement, helping children develop real skills and confidence.

Amelia Rand — Artist & Studio Educator
Amelia is a third-year NAS student specialising in portraiture, abstraction, and observational painting. She brings patience, clarity, and encouragement to every session, helping children explore their own creative voice while mastering foundational techniques.

Emily Lewer — Artist & Studio Educator
Emily, also a third-year NAS student, works across abstraction and assemblage. She guides students to experiment with materials and techniques while maintaining strong foundational skills in drawing and painting.

Madison Baird — Artist & Studio Educator
Madison is a NAS graduate who has exhibited in Australia and recently returned from residencies in Germany and Morocco. She brings professional exhibiting experience and a calm, supportive presence to the studio, helping children refine their skills and gain confidence in their creativity.

Our Spaces & Safety
Squiggler operates in two inspiring locations:
- Redfern Gallery & Studio: A professional gallery built for emerging artists, giving students real-world exposure to professional creative environments.
- Ngarala Public School, Epping: A familiar, supportive school setting where children enjoy the same high-quality, structured art education.
Our priority is a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. We maintain small class ratios, provide consistent supervision, and encourage respect, collaboration, and creative risk-taking. Every child is supported to feel confident, capable, and proud of their work.
What Students Gain
By the end of each term, children leave with:
- Multiple completed artworks that demonstrate real skill progression
- Confidence presenting and discussing their work
- Experience working in a gallery-quality setting
- A sense of pride and accomplishment from a final exhibition and art auction
- A deeper belief in their own creative ability, which extends beyond the studio
At Squiggler, we’re not just teaching art — we’re helping young artists see the value in their ideas and giving them the tools to make those ideas shine.
